teaching drums.

The School of Rhythm is a music school specialising in drum tuition.
It was established in South East London, Forest Hill, SE23 in 2001
by Dominique Pizzinat and is also known as 'The Forest Hill Drum School'.
It has now been extended into state-of-the-art drum studios to Penge,
London, SE20. Our drum school now keeps 7 professional drummers
busy 7 days a week,
offering lessons to children and adults,
including special needs.
All levels and all styles of music are catered for.

Preparation to Trinity College & Rock School grades is available
(See right column). Students who wish to take this route are
prepared for the Grades 1 to 8. (100% success mainly
with 'merit' or 'distinction' over the last 16 years).

Premises
Our premises benefit from state-of-the-art professional sound proofing, air conditioning, CCTV and buzzer controled entry. Students can enjoy a pleasent and arty environment where they sometimes cross the path of legends coming to practice or record in adjacent production studios.
Studio 1 and Studio 2 are each equiped with 2 excellent drum kits ) and a professional Mackie 450 watts sound system to practice along with backing tracks. We endorse the excellent Murat Diril hand-hammered Turkish cymbals.

These premises also offer practice rooms and we are working with a local Music Academy to team guitarists, pianists, bassists etc with our drum students when they are ready to start a band of their own.

Your learning experience:
Students in our drum school learn on real acoustic, professional drum kits : Pearl, Gretch, Yamaha, Premier, Mapex and Murat Diril Cymbals.
All drum lessons are one hour weekly or fortnightly. (Intensive packages of up to 10 hours weekly available). You can choose between one-to-one or group lessons on our accoustic drumkits. Group lessons can comprise 2-4 students and are cheaper.

To make our school accessible to everyone, we will re-open our famous electronic drum kits group sessions.by the end of 2024. These are group drumming lessons with 4 students - loads of fun and laughter, and affordable.

Group "Marathon" drumming sessions are held monthly when possible to greatly boost the students' wrists technique (open to all students and people from outside the school).
These sessions last 3-4 hours non-stop and are real funl!

The Yussef Dayes Experience @ Royal Albert Hall London, Oct 12th 2023. Yussef sold out the RAH. 5000 fans going berserk after each song! Wonderful band, outstanding drumming... mental evening!

A short history of our team

Dominique Pizzinat started to teach in South East London in 2001. This one-man show evolved a few years later, when his first UK student, Yussef Dayes, joined him as a teacher. Yussef rapidly became a busy drummer and Jimmy Pallagrosi replaced him in 2013, then Matthew Vella in 2015. In 2016 the opening of a 2nd studio added Ben Pearson, Carlos Alberici, Liam Hornby, Jack Summerfield and Louis Bradshaw. From 2017 both studios were running
7 days a week, at full capacity.

Several changes occured in 2020 following the 1st lockdown when, alas, part of the team had to be let go.
A new team was soon rebuilt composed of:
Liam Hornsby, Louis Bradshow, Josh Stagg, Alex Baboulene, Gaspar Borges Sena, Loris Scarpa and Ben Philippe.
Dom had to hand-out his students during the first lockdown to focus on the management. The school arrived the other side in March 2021, with a buzzing online section. 2 months after the re-opening of our studios we were stronger than evers with students in Germany, New York and around the UK.

May 5th, 2023 the pandemic was declared over by the WHO and our teachers rapidly started to gig again and go on tour, This made a new reshuffling necessary. The new teaching is now composed of: Louis Bradshaw, Fin Abbo, Arthur Mazandarani, Leah Griffin, Bob Kessels and Tommi Danielli. Our prior teachers keep available for replacement when needed, keeping the integrityy of our teaching department.

The int. trade mark "School of Rhythm" was registered under number UK00003636641 on Sept 24th 2021, and it became a limited company with
Dom and his life long partner in crime, pro singer and music business graduate Val Kelly, as co-directors.

We are extremely proud of our team.
Our teachers have music degrees (BMUs) or Masters from prestigious London or foreign Academies/Universities and are touring musicians - when one is away another one steps in so as to maintain consistency in the teaching. This helps greatly to generate the fun and high energy atmosphere the school is famous for. They love teaching drums and always go the extra mile whenever necessary. You always leave your lesson wearing a large smile.

To check if there is a slot available which would work for you (or your child) please contact us through our 'contact' link.
You can sign up for one hour or choose from various discounted packages. Payment options are cash or BACS.

We also give you the opportunity to offer drumming vouchers as gift to friends and family - see left column.
